Foundry Mountain Activities

Foundry Mountain Activities is committed to providing safe, accessible adventure for all abilities.

FMA is licensed under the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations (2004) for the provision of climbing, watersports, trekking and caving, and is formally inspected on an annual basis.

We have also attained the Adventuremark, Learning Outside the Classroom [LOtC] badge and the AHOEC Gold Standard for quality & safety in outdoor education.

All activities are fully risk assessed and delivered according to written standard operating procedures. Our instructional team are highly experienced in dynamically assessing and managing risk.

Adventure Activity delivery is managed by Adrian Roberts, who is a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors [AMI], the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres [AHOEC], The National Association of Head Teachers [NAHT] and the Institute for Outdoor Learning [IOL]. As well as being a highly qualified and experienced outdoor instructor he is also a qualified teacher with 20 years experience in education.

All activities are delivered by appropriately qualified / experienced instructional staff, in line with the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations (2004), and according to the written procedures.

All activity & accommodation sites are risk assessed, and the process of dynamic risk assessment continues throughout the delivery of activities.

Whilst there is an inherent risk in all adventure activities, it is possible to control that risk so that it is both manageable and proportionate to the experience of the participant. It must also be recognised that the benefits of participation in adventurous activities far outweigh the risks, and that properly managed adventure activities are in fact far safer than the majority of popular sports.

The commercial provision of adventure in the UK is highly regulated, and has an exceptional safety record. With proper training and experience, participation in adventure activities can have relatively low risks whilst offering huge benefits in terms of personal development, long-term health, fitness and well-being.
