Foundry Mountain Activities

Academy Selection Weekend - 11th & 12th October
If you would like to join the Academy then get training. We will be holding a selection weekend where you can come along and attempt to 'crack' 10 problems; 5 on the bouldering wall and 5 on a top rope.
All candidates will recieve a goody bag and feedback and tips on how to improve and the successful candidates will be asked to join the Academy, given lots of free clobber and supported for the next 12 months to maximise their climbing ability. Ask at the Foundry for an application pack and more details.

Foundry Mountain Activities are proud to pledge their support for The Foundry Academy promoting climbing and competition for young people in Sheffield.

Foundry Academy Mission Statement
To develop climbing and support young people into competition

Foundry Academy History
A bunch of dedicated climbers with strong connections to The Foundry climbing wall in Sheffield were concerned that in the UK’s # 1 climbing city there was not one active climbing club and no organised attempt to encourage youngsters into climbing outside of the confines of business.
They decided to provide their time, expertise and resources to develop a team to represent them, their wall and their city at national competition and raising support and generating interest. If you want to contact the team directly please email: foundryacademy@yahoo.co.uk

Foundry Academy Objectives
  • To hold regular trial events at The Foundry to recruit members
  • To provide an appropriate Academy identity through clothing and other imagery
  • To create a well known team of high regard for young people to aspire to join
  • To provide monthly training sessions
  • To develop climber’s skills and safety indoors and outdoors
  • To provide support for competitors before, during and after competitions
  • To ensure sufficient equipment is available to The Academy to meet it’s delivery objectives
  • To provide support for senior team members, who remain dedicated to the spirit of The Academy and continue to contribute their skills and experience, in the form of an annual award towards their climbing costs
FMA’s support
Foundry Mountain Activities were approached to lend their expertise and infrastructure to ensure all activities are managed and run to nationally specified guidelines with appropriate safety measures in place including relevant insurances, accreditations and procedures and also to allow access to qualified and experienced staff.
Until The Academy is established in its own right as an affiliated club it will be adhering to FMA’s health and safety policies and procedures and will be overseen by FMA staff to ensure licensing and insurance requirements are met.
