The Foundry Adventure Centre is located just south of the Hope Valley, on the boundary between the Dark & White Peak. It gives excellent access to both the gritstone edges and heather moorland to the north and the limestone hills and valleys to the south.
The Peak District is an incredibly diverse area offering numerous activities and attractions. It is the UK's most accessible National Park and the first to be recognised and designated.
The Hope Valley runs from Castleton in the West, with it's four show caves, through Hathersage, centre to the rock climbing community, and on towards Chatsworth in the east.
The River Derwent rises on the Dark Peak moors and runs down through the picturesque Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs to enter the Hope Valley at Bamford.
The Derwent then heads on through Hathersage, Grindleford, Calver, Curbar & Baslow on its way towards Chatsworth. This section of the valley gives excellent riverside walks with a wealth of flora and fauna. The northern escarpment of the valley consists of Bamford Edge, Stanage Edge, Millstone Edge, Froggatt Edge & Curbar Edge - all world renowned rock climbing venues.
The river the runs past Chatsworth House and on to Matlock, where it runs in a deep limestone valley with high crags and cave-riddled hills on either side. It is joined at Rowsley by the River Wye, which on its journey through the heart of the White Peak from Buxton has passed through Millersdale, Ashford, beneath Haddon Hall and on through Bakewell.
The Dark & White Peak offer varied and contrasting walking, excellent mountain biking, world class climbing, aerial sports, pony trekking, streams to paddle in, small villages & market towns, pubs, cafes and shops. The Peak District is famous for its fetes & fairs, well dressings and country shows. You can be as active as you like or simply sit and admire the scenary. It really does offer something for everyone.
